Is certainly MMA Preventing Boxing?

Over the previous years, MMA events like the UFC have been gaining serious ground over Boxing. Proof of this is the simple fact that last year UFC pay-per-view events raised more money than boxing events.

I am a huge boxing fan myself but unfortunately over the past five years, it lost the glamour and the prestige that after made boxing a sport to watch. I can not recall how many nights that I stayed up until 5 or 4 in the morning waiting to see Tyson fight.

That is one the largest difficulty with boxing these days there aren’t many idols like before. Request any 20 years old these days who is their favorite boxer; I’ll be surprised if they say any. You see, boxing is lacking idols and idols are what drive revenue in sport.

Go and ask the same 20 year who’s their favorite MMA fighter and I bet that he will say:” Out Of UFC or Strikeforce, in what class?”

In its early days, MMA events were considered brutal and no TV channel needed to broadcast its fights. So what made them change their minds? What affects what’s sports these days, MONEY.

When it all started the only way to watch UFC fights was by renting videotapes now you have cable channels dedicated particularly for MMA and the principal events can only be watched on pay-per-view reddit mma stream. MMA merchandising power has increased tremendously and surpassed boxing, why it’s gained so much vulnerability lately.

There is even a reality show called The Ultimate Fighter which is in its 13th edition, in which amateur Mixed Martial Arts fighters fight to become professional. Thus the fact that many fighting in UFC these days has come out of this reality show.

Even renowned boxing equipment brands are creating MMA gear which is moor evidence of their merchandising electricity MMA has these days. Just for the record when Dana White bought the UFC from the Gracie Family, it was worth 2 million Dollars now it’s a two billion dollar enterprise.

But that is not the only reason MMA is much more popular than boxing these days.

This generation can be more lively with great eagerness for action and MMA struggles to deliver just that. While boxing can become rather boring at times, 12 rounds with no knockdown can be tedious, to say the least.
